German term

Vorleitschaufel

German to English Tech/Engineering Energy / Power Generation gas turbines
The subject matter is a compressor of a gas turbine, and the only translation I can find is "initial guide blade" or "initial guide vane". Although "Vorleitrad" is understood to be "inlet guide vane", I wonder if "Vorleitschaufel" could be the same thing, or could the latter be the first stage stator blading, although if this were to be the case I would have thought it would have been defined differently.

Abk. "IGV"
Vorleitrad wird i.d.R. mit "inlet guide vanes" (plural) wiedergegeben.

Ist der Text über stationäre Gasturbinen oder Fluggasturbinen?
Note from asker:
Uta Many thanks. The subject matter is a stationary gas turbine. Since sending out my question I have had a chance to look at a drawing and I am sure this has to be inlet guide vane. If it were to be the first stage stator blading I think it would have been defined differently.

agree Claire Cox : I had a similar question with Leitstufe back in June and "guide stage" was the consensus then. The refs in the answer were quite useful too. See http://www.proz.com/kudoz/1415710
