German term

Sichtmäppchen

German to English Tech/Engineering Paper / Paper Manufacturing Stationery
Alles was nicht für den laufenden Tag ist, muss im Sichtmäppchen im roten Bestellordner abgelegt werden.

The text is basically related to finance. But that has no relevance to the context at hand.

Here, it refers to how the company plans its day. Only items related to that particular day should be out. Everything else should be tucked away in a Sichtmäppchen.

Isnt a 'Sichtmäppchen' just a plain folder? Or is it a transparent folder - a folder, which allows to view its contents?

Discussion

Nadine Kahn May 7, 2007:
They didn't close the matter. Orders etc. have to be dealt with later, therefore they put it in this special folder. To "sight" it on the following day. But I'm not sure either, it's just because of the first sentence...
Sonali Hegde (asker) May 7, 2007:
Enkay, I am not sure what a 'Wiedervorlagemappe' is. Leo says it is a follow-up file, but it still doesnt make sense to me :-(
Nadine Kahn May 5, 2007:
Ich denke, es handelt sich hier um eine Wiedervorlagemappe, da die Dokumente im Ordner erneut vorgelegt werden müssen. I think the folder is to be used for resubmission here.
Sonali Hegde (asker) May 5, 2007:

Thanks Mimoza! I did think of 'transparent folder' too, but I am still not very sure.

(clear) plastic sleeves

im Sichtmäppchen im Bestellordner = in (clear) plastic sleeves of/in the red purchase folder

You can either use "clear plastic sleeves" or only "plastic sleeves". Both are equally good. Just that "clear plastic sleeves" is a bit more specific & highlights 'Sicht' thing. But as file folders mostly come with transparent sleeves only...therefore "plastic sleeves" should also serve the purpose.

It basically refers to a file folder that has many plastic sleeves (folder like thing) fixed in the same way as several pages are fixed in a notebook.

Thanks Savita. That is a pretty good description....
