German term

Terminierung machen

German to English Tech/Engineering IT (Information Technology)
KONTEXT: Bullet points under the title ,,Terminierungarten:"

Durchlaufterminierung macht entweder eine Vorwärtsterminierung oder eine Rückwärtsterminierung

Netzterminierung macht eine Vorwärts- und eine Rückwärtsterminierung

I'm not sure how to translate ,,Terminierung machen". Ordinarily, I could possibly translate it as "schedule" but in the two examples above, that wouldn't be possible because the translations would be "Lead time scheduling schedules either forward or backward scheduling", for example, i.e. too much "schedule/scheduling" in the sentence. Is there another way around this?

Discussion

Roy Williams Feb 20, 2008:
could this be referencing network termination (i.e. bus network) rather than scheduling?

Ken Cox Feb 20, 2008:
Are you quite sure that this is about scheduling?

terminate

As you are talking about a network, you terminate the network so it knows where it ends. Usually, this involves connecting an appropriate resistive load to the cable.
Note from asker:
Hi everyone, I can't access the "Note(s) to/from asker" section above to enter my note there but I really don't think it's to do with termination. The text relates to the scheduling of standard times, actual times, planned times in materials management. I'm going to have to check this with the client, therefore, will close this question now. Many thanks, nevertheless, for all your help!
PS: Durchlaufterminierung is lead time scheduling, which is performed using the routing. In this case, it calculates the start and finish dates and times of the operations.
Hi again, decided to close this after having spoken to the client. I've been advised to translate "Terminierung machen" as "carry out scheduling". Many thanks, jjcantrell, and to everyone for your help. :-)

agree Ken Cox : surely the intended meaning given the provided context, and intelligent rewording is necessary to produce normal English
