I am looking for a term which 'works' in Russian to describe the import, i.e. the rhetorical force, of what is being said in a given text. In other words what is the point being conveyed.

| Okay, but doesn't суть refer to the content, rather than the import of what is being said? If I say, "I love you." That is content, but the import of that statement can vary. I could be saying "*I* love you" (rather than someone else loving you). I could you be meaning "I *love* you (rather than hating you). Or I could be meaning, "I love "you*" (as opposed to loving someone else). Do you see where i am coming from. Is суть still the best translation? |
