English term

overflow

English to Hebrew Art/Literary Poetry & Literature religion
I am looking for the Hebrew translation of the English word "overflow" (verb, as in "to be filled or supplied with in great measure: a heart overflowing with gratitude"). The purpose is for a blog title for faith-based poetry and journals. Thank you.

Discussion

Lingopro Jan 23, 2009:
Sonjay, this would be it in English alphabet:
La-alot al g'dotav.
There are 3 words in total.
The first: la-alot is separated by a hyphen because the first "a" is silent", but the second is emphasized (sounds: hard aa). The word la-alot means to exceed. "al" means on/over. "g'dotav" - the g is pronounced like the g in girl, it means: bank, shore, rim etc.
Hope this helps.

clarification Thank you all very much for your help. I have one clarification. My keyboard does not have the Hebrew alphabet/symbols, nor am I able to read Hebrew. Is there a spelling (using the "English" alphabet) that could be used? This would also be helpful to me and others in my audience to be able to get an idea of how the word/phrase sounds when spoken. Thank you.

agree Doron Greenspan MITI : But since your solution is in the infinitive (=to overflow), I'd change it to present tense: עולה על גדותיו.
