English term

presenting patients

English to Spanish Medical Medical (general)
Hello everyone,

I need your help with the translation of "presenting patients" in the sentence below:

"Muscle resistance is linked to back pain in presenting patients"

Is it something like "...en los pacientes que presentan/sufren dolor"?? I thought about "afectados" however, I'd prefer not to use it as I have done so later on in the same sentence (qualifying a different noun) and I would like to avoid repetition.

Thank you!

agree Linda Grabner : esta es una buena opción porque evita la repetición de "dolor(es)"

It's ambiguous

According to The American Heritage Medical Dictionary, present can mean:
"1. To appear or be felt first during birth. Used of the part of the fetus that proceeds first through the birth canal.
2. To place oneself in the presence of a doctor or other medical provider as a patient with a complaint or condition.
3. To manifest a symptom.

4. To attach or be capable of attaching to a cell surface, especially for detection by other molecules."

Here I think it must mean either (2) or (3); in other words "presenting patients" could mean either patients who present themselves for medical examination or patients who present certain symptoms. I'm really not sure which is right here.
