Identification As a native speaker, it all sounds like identification to me. They are mentioning the name of the collection (XX) and the brand name it goes under (1234), so that readers will know exactly what they are talking about. Still, texts for translation are often less than obvious and logical, so we cannot rely on their being correct. Sometimes I feel that source text means "source of trouble and misunderstading" :-)

Hi Cynthia While John must have a surname, the product name doesn't need to be sold under the company's normal brand. While I would put money on your and my "feeling" that it does not mean separate from, my point is translation should not be gamble!

Hi Jim! I see your point. Anyway, I still think that if they meant "separate from" they would make everything clearer, mentioning the name of the brand the collection belongs to. You cannot say, "My friend John, whose last name is not Smith, ..." and not mention his surname.

Hi Cynthia My first (and second) instinct was to follow your reasoning as I wrote, "I would assume under the brand", but we can only see two lines of text, which is why I add "but it is an intelligent guess". Also note that the audience is "legal field". The authors of the Rosetta Stone are not on the telephone, but not to give these a ring or not to put a note or something would be to take an unnecessary chance.
Also the most common use of "distinto da" is to mean "separate from".

Not so ambiguous As they are referring to a single company, it is more likely that they are making a distinction between two different brands of the same company. In my opinion, "distinta" means "identified by the brand", here. If it were different from the brand 1234 why wouldn't they mention the brand name it belongs to?

Ambiguous This is ambiguous. It could be "distinto" in the sense of separate from distinct from, or it could be "distinto" in the sense of characterised by of in this case under the brand name (as any good Italian dictionary will tell you). Only careful reading of the full context will tell or a phone call to the author. The difference is crucial either under the brand or not under the brand.
In the absence of further context, I would assume under the brand, but it is an intelligent guess.

Since it reads "... distinta dal" I read it as meaning something to the effect of ... GOING OR KNOWN UNDER THE BRAND NAME 1234. That particular brand name, 1234, could, for example, be a sub-section (sportswear, children's clothing etc.) of the larger collection XXX - like Miss xyz of the XXX collection - if it happens to be clothing- but it could apply to plenty of other types of products too. Just a couple of suggestions. HTH
