English term

c. 1320 (year)

English to German Other Architecture Abkürzung/Geschichtlicher Hintergrund
In a text or timeline, years given with the leading abbreviation ***c.***

Sorry I cannot tell for sure, whether a small or capital "c" - the font used makes it very hard to tell, unfortunately.

Two examples:

c. 710 Foundation of the Saxon priory of St Frideswide
The South Transept contains the Becket window (c. 1320).

Could it be this "c." stands for "commencing"?

Thank you for "enlightening" me! ;-)

Cheers,
Ulrike

@ Ulrike MacKay Don't worry - now and then, this happens to all of us. :-)
Ulrike MacKay (asker) Jun 1, 2017:
Goodness really that simple? %-) Kept thinking if it was "circa" it would have been given as "ca. 710" resp. "ca. 1320"... I looked up just about EVERYTHING I could (and couldn't) possibly think of... Should have started with the obvious... ;-)

Thank you so much, everybody, and have a lovely day!
Ludger Wedding Jun 1, 2017:
