What is the difference? Both are bearings, but since in my context they are used several times in an enumeration (no adjectives to help), there must be some basic difference ...

Kugellager, lager
Explanation:
A "roulement" has always rolling parts : roulement à billes, rollbearing, Kugellager, roulement à rouleaux (coniques), (taper) roller bearing, (kegel) Rollenlager, roulement à aiguilles, needle bearing, Nadellager. Unspecified, it is often a "roulement à billes".

A "palier" or "coussinet" has no rolling parts, unless specified (palier à billes, palier à rouleaux, etc.). There may be an oil film between the two moving parts, palier à film d'huile, as in automotive crankshaft (Hauptlager), or it may be made of an autolubricationg alloy (bronze bearing, Bronzelager, palier ou coussinet en bronze), or Teflon.
