German term or phrase: Radkastenüberbau
"Auf der Fahrerseite befindet sich ein Radkastenüberbau auf dem die Wasserspender nebeneinander abgestellt werden. Die Spender werden mit einem Gurtsystem umspannt, damit sie nicht umfallen können."

Morning all,

This is from an interview with a droolingly enthusiastic Mercedes Sprinter driver. I've never come across this term before and all I can find for "Überbau" is "superstructure", which doesn't really go with "wheel housing".

Any ideas out there?

Thanks

Ian

Now, I couldn't post "outer wing", could I? Looks to me like the panel on which my car has itswinscreen washer fluid bottle mounted - complete with belt, so it doesn't fall over; so what's so great about Mercedes????

I take it these are containers for drinking water in the cab? Then it can still be on the inner wing....

In that case, it\'s a wheel housing.

...or wheel arch.
Better put \"rear wheel arch\", I think.

Explanation:
Hello Ian. Maybe the above would be a good "safe bet". There are only 6 references to "Radkastenüberbau" on the internet, so it seems to be a bit of a made-up word anyway.

Seems this is all it is
Überbau is simply anything built over something else

So that it would read something like : ...-side there is over the wheel arches a framework/rack system in which ....blah blah

Radkastenüberbau
platform / rack

Explanation:
My understanding is that it's a not quite horizontal surface along the driver's side of the vehicle but mounted higher up than (both) the wheel arches (wheelhousings).

in fact, I think \'ledge\' might better than platform or rack.
