French term

moment de renversement

French to English Science Geology Geology - Seismology
From a specifications sheet for earthquake resistant construction:

LES CALCULS, CONFORMES AUX EXIGENCES DU (governing body) DES CHARGES CRÉÉES PAR LES SOLLICITATIONS SISMIQUES, DES MOMENTS DE RENVERSEMENT DE L’ÉQUIPEMENT SUR DALLE OU SUR TOIT ET DES MOMENTS DE RÉSISTANCE AU RENVERSEMENT..

moment de resistance and moment de resistance au renversement. The definitions I have found are OVERTURNING MOMENTS or SEISMIC OVERTURNING MOMENTS which make sense but I would like to be certain!

Anyone who is knowledgeable about geology or seismology, i would be happy to hear from.

overturning moment

A possible alternative is 'pitching moment.'

Example sentence:

Alors que certains codes et normes proposent des méthodes d’estimation simplifiées des forces de cisaillement à la base pour les pylônes autoportants installés sur le sol, aucune méthode n’existe encore pour l’évaluation des moments de renver

Although some codes and standards propose simplified methods for the evaluation of base shear forces for towers founded on ground, no method yet exists for the evaluation of overturning moments.

Note from asker:
yes it's more likely overturning moment. Pitch refers to ships, this is a building that is supposed to be earth-quake resistant.
Peer comment(s):

agree chris collister : But I'm not sure about pitching moment, which is usually reserved for aircraft and ships
