German term

nicht hoch deckende Farben

German to English Tech/Engineering Cosmetics, Beauty Hair analysis
And again (sigh):

Has anybody got any idea what "nicht hoch deckenden Farben" are in this context? "Badly covering colors" gets zero Google hits :(

TIA, again.

Discussion

David Willett (asker) Feb 19, 2006:
Thank you all for your help. Sorry for not providing much context - here's the whole paragraph:

Nicole Schnell Feb 19, 2006:
"Nicht hoch deckend" has nothing to do with poor quality. Not everybody needs to cover up gray hair or wants a complete color change. People sometimes want to enhance or only slightly change their natural hair color.

Nicole is right, nicht deckend doesn't mean poor quality. See for example:

Long-lasting, translucent coloring or "staining" products yield shades close to the hair's natural color, or slightly darker, and can also add highlights. They cover up to 50% of gray but do not lighten the hair.

German term (edited): nicht hoch deckenden Farben

colours with poor covering power

is a possibility, maybe? It'll depend on the tone of the rest of the writing, I guess.
