Portuguese to English Other Other outro
É uma tonalidade de branco. Assim como existe "branco gelo" , existe o "branco light". Pensei em colocar "light white" . É correto?

Enza Longo Mar 13, 2008:
of white, I would just stick to (painted) white steel cabinet
Enza Longo Mar 13, 2008:
what does branco light look like? Since technically, white is not a colour, you can't say it's either light or dark, but you can say bright white, matte white, yellowish white, blueish white. etc. Unless the steel cabinet comes in different kinds
simonete (asker) Mar 13, 2008:
they are referring to a steel cabinet. I think it doesn't look ok. but that's the name in Portuguese. People say "branco light" in Portuguese.
Enza Longo Mar 13, 2008:
What are these colours referring to? As an aside, one can say light blue or dark blue but not light white or dark black.

pure white/white

agree Enza Longo : I would stick to plain ole 'white'

Thanks, Enza...me, too.
agree Wagner Azevedo : O dicionário de Collocations Oxford registra os seguintes adjetivos para white: [dead, pure][bright, brilliant][bone, creamy, icy, milky][dirty, off-][plain] - Qual será o branco light?
1 hr
Could be bright or brilliant, but many companies make up names, like "lily white," dazzling white," etc., so it's impossible to say. Definitely not "bone, creamy, or milky."

dim white

dim = lacking of brightness, kind of pale.
Example sentence:

Melatonin sensitivity to dim white light in different seasons

Nevertheless, there has been a school of thought that a very dim white light will serve better than colored light

Peer comment(s):

neutral Enza Longo : dim in your example is an adjective for light, not white - dim light not dim white

Light White

:-)
Peer comment(s):
