It seems esponjado and frizz are different terms

pompadour

It would be nice to have more context, but this is a possibility.

Since the context clearly indicates that the "pelo esponjado" is a *problem* to be dealt with, I don't think that either "fluffy hair" or "pompadour" will do as a translation....

teased hair

teasing the hair is done with a comb to fluff up the hair and give it volume. This was a common practice during the 1960's - think Priscilla Presley, Doris Day, etc. Hope this helps.
