I imagine it is a mini-"churro". Can you help with a translation or should I leave as "churro"? (it is listed in a Mexican-Spanish medical research article as an example of a food prepared with cornflour.

Churro

This Spanish and Mexican specialty consists of a sweet-dough spiral that is deep-fried and eaten like a doughnut. Churros are usually coated with a mixture of cinnamon and confectioners\' (or granulated) sugar.

A churro is a sweet, fried pastry-based snack, popular in Spain, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, and the USA. It is sometimes referred to as a Spanish doughnut or Mexican doughnut. It is also sometimes referred to as a type of pretzel. In some parts of Spain (such as Ávila or Madrid) bigger churros are called porras, and smaller and twisted ones, churros.

Some claim that the churro is named after the shape of the horns of the Churro breed of sheep which is reared in the Spanish grasslands. This may be true as it is possible that the churro was initially invented by the shepherds of this region.

The churro is typically fried to a crunchy consistency. Its surface is ridged due to being extruded from a churrera, a syringe with a star-shaped nozzle. Churros are generally prisms in shape, but instead of being straight they may be curled or spirally twisted.

Its size and recipe, both of which vary considerably, may determine whether it is thought of as a kind of bread, cake, or cookie.

The typical flavoring of churros is cinnamon. Churros are also often served sprinkled with sugar. Many churro connoisseurs swear by the combination of chocolate con churros, wherein the churro is dunked into a mug of piping hot chocolate.

Like pretzels, churros are often sold by street vendors who in many cases will fry them freshly on the street stand and sell them warm or hot.

Churros contain a high proportion of fat due to being deep-fried.

The deep frying process produces a widely appreciated smell (hence their attraction to street vendors), but where they form a significant component of daily diets, they are often associated with obesity-related health problems.

Filled straight churros are found in Brazil (with chocolate, caramel among others), and in Argentina, usually filled with Dulce de leche, but also with chocolate and vanilla.

A sweet Turkish \'fluted fritter\', which seems to look similar to churros, is called Tulumba Tatlisi.\"

Otra definición en español de lo que es un churro en México, que además parece ir más de acuerdo con tu pregunta anterior de \"pan de caja\" y \"bolillos\" ya que los churros en México se venden en las panaderías como pan dulce:

Por otra parte, viendo la confusión que hay con \"churritos\" y \"charritos\" debo aclarar que los \"charritos\" sí son la botana que describe Ana María, pero eso es esencialmente otra cosa.

El Google tiene un valor innegable pero también está lleno de errores de deletreo y en mi opinión no debemos confiar tan ciegamente en él.

Soy mexicano, nací y viví hasta los 22 años en México y te puedo asegurar que un \"churrito\" y un \"charrito\" son dos cosas totalmente distintas.

corn curls, cheese puffs

Again, of my experience in Mexico, churrito can be a small churro, but a churro is sweet and the churritos are cheesy and salty. Here in the US I've seen them as "korn kurls" or "cheese puffs" they are about the size of a child's finger, very crisp, and again, salty and they're generally dispensed in very small bags for a very low price...(in Mexico)Hope it helps. By the way, the \"churros\" also existing in Mexico, are not made with corn flour but with wheat flour, they are made the same way they are made in Spain and in many other Latin American Countries, and they are fried in a big cauldron of hot oil (the same way French fries are)
in a continuos spiral, which is taken out and cut into pieces after it drains the excess oil, and the pieces are sprinkled with granulated sugar... they are delicious !

agree Margaret Schroeder : Churritos involving corn (maize) flour ar a botana, see http://tinyurl.com/b63p7 . As Ana-María says, "churros" are like a stick or spiral-shaped doughnut, sweet, and made with wheat, not corn flour.

agree Mapi : I'm from Madrid where we have 'churros' and 'porras' (same dough but smaller and bigger respectively), I think you must be right, mainly because these 'churritos' are made from corn and cause I don't think they would use a diminutive in a food study.

mini-churros

I would definitely NOT translate "churros". It's like "paella" which is never translated, nor do we give the recipe.
