(1) Announcing the ProZ.com Certified PRO network
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A new ProZ.com program was announced on International Translation Day last week: the ProZ.com Certified PRO network.
This program has been launched to identify qualified translators and translation companies working in various language pairs, and provide them with the option of networking and collaborating in an environment consisting entirely of screened professionals.
The impetus for the program came from member responses to the July survey on professional differentiation. The concept has been further refined and developed over the past several months by a private group consisting of ProZ.com members and site staff.
An overview was first made available last week. The program is being made open for applications starting today.
(3) The Justin Chlebus Memorial Scholarship is halfway to its funding goal
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A big thank you to all of those who have contributed to the Justin Chlebus Memorial scholarship in September.

The scholarship, established in memory of former ProZ.com staff member Justin Chlebus, will provide the opportunity for exceptional young people to study for one year in another country.

In the program's first month, over 10,160 euro was raised. The application process will be formulated when the target amount of 20,000 euro has been reached. Children of ProZ.com members with an interest in studying overseas and learning a new language, and young ProZians themselves, will then be invited to apply.

(4) Directory of translation companies updated
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The ProZ.com directory of translation companies has been redesigned. It now searches against the information contained in the new company profile. This means that it is possible, for example, to search for companies that are of a certain scale, that offer DTP or multimedia services, that operate in certain industries, etc.
More than 20,000 companies are listed, and much more information is available about each. Those with the most positive Blue Board records are shown first.
(6) Conference in Uruguay built bridges
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

If you were at the August conference in Montevideo, organized by member Fabio Descalzi, you know that it was a unique and successful event.

Over 120 ProZians from 11 countries attended this event -- the first of its type in Uruguay -- making the conference theme of 'Building bridges to the world' particularly relevant. In addition, more than twenty university students (many from the University of the Republic) were there to hear from the 15 speakers. Members of the Directory Board of the Uruguayan Sworn Translators Association were there, too.

(9) ProZwiki article on translation industry in Armenia
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Armenian translator Henrik Pipoyan http://www.proz.com/profile/9220 started a ProZwiki entry on the translation industry in Armenia.
Excerpt from his entry:
.......
Demand for translation in Armenia
In Armenia, the demand for commercial translation services comes mainly from government agencies and the private sector. Government agencies and large companies usually have their in-house translators. Translators are normally part of the foreign relations departments. In the public sector translators are mainly involved in translation of agreements, laws and regulations. In the private sector the predominant subject is import and export of goods and business correspondence.
.......
The complete entry can be found at http://www.proz.com/prozwiki/en:Translation_Industry_in_Armenia
ProZians in Armenia are invited to comment and add more information to this article. Those in other areas are invited to contribute content related to the industry in their own countries. In this way, the ProZwiki may become a valuable resource for the entire community.
