I've only noticed this since yesterday, and it's a big nuisance.

It hasn\'t escaped my attention Aug 9, 2015

I submitted a support ticket about it about an hour ago.

It looks like an escape character having gone wrong. As \' and \" could interfere with the site\'s html, they apparently use so-called escape characters before them, meaning the sign following the escape character should not be interpreted as code but simply displayed. Or maybe that\'s what they used to do, and they made a change to another technique and forgot to remove the escape characters. Or whatever.

Slashes Aug 9, 2015

I\'ll post the reply from support when I get one.

Maybe they\'ve slashed their IT staff or hired a slasher by mistake.

Somebody screwed up big time Aug 9, 2015

I tried to update my profile today and it screwed up all the URLs. I’ve had to remove them all as no images or links would work. Now I’m left with the ugliest profile ever

Useful for seeing how many times the author edited his post.

Issue corrected Aug 10, 2015

Hello everyone,

This issue, which started late on Friday, has now been corrected. Unfortunately, posts since then will continue to display the extraneous backslashes, but new posts will not.

These will not be displayed with backslashes: ' "

Thanks Aug 10, 2015

Thanks for fixing it so quickly.

So there should only be a single occurrence of each of the following characters now:

\ " ' &

(also after editing)
