Spanish term

Lista de referencias

Hello Colleagues:

Quick question on reference lists in articles.

If the document is in Spanish but the reference list has articles and books in both English and Spanish:

a. Does the reference list get translated.
b and if so, how does one let the reader of the translation know which references are in English or Spanish. (ie, is there a notation made to indicate that the article or book is originally in English?)

thanks.

Muchas gracias, un placer haber podido ayudar.
Henry Hinds Mar 17, 2006:
It was not an appropriate question here. So good night to you also.
LighthouseTrans (asker) Mar 17, 2006:
It is actually not a question about style (ie., as in your translation style or my style, or someone else's style.) It is a question about the correct treatment of text. in this case, a reference list within a document to be translated. So as an English to English question, it might not get the desired answer from someone who has encountered this in a bilingual scenario and what should be the correct treatment of it. Good night.
Muriel Vasconcellos (X) Mar 17, 2006:
I agree with you that this is a translation question & I agree with the answer you chose. However, it is a debated issue, and I feel that you should have allowed for discussion. According to the rules, you should wait 24 hours before accepting an answer.
Henry Hinds Mar 17, 2006:
Perhaps I should be more specific. It is a question about translation, but not for a specific term. Here we deal with the translation for specific terms. What you are asking is a question on style.
LighthouseTrans (asker) Mar 17, 2006:
Thanks for you reply- It is, however, a translation question.
Henry Hinds Mar 17, 2006:
Should be an English monolingual question.

Según yo entiendo, los títulos quedan en su idioma original. Si luego del título de la obra salen fechas o ciudades (que no son parte del título), estos se traducen al idioma meta.

Por ejemplo, si sale:

Fulano y Mengano, "La decentralización fiscal y sus efectos", Editorial Marengo, octubre de 1999, Panamá.

Sería al inglés:
Fulano and Mengano, "La decentralización fiscal y sus efectos",
Editorial Marengo, october, 1999, Panama.

Ojalá te ayude.

As far as I know you do not translate the bibiography, you leave it in the original language, because those were the works that were actually consulted.

This is not a translation question, it should be "English-English", and I don't know if you realize that such questions are possible, and in any language.
