Spanish term

perfumera

Spanish to English Other Cosmetics, Beauty
I am translating a magazine for a company that among other things makes cosmetics, skincare products, haircare products and nappies. A few times it suggests consulting the 'perfumera' for further information. Obviously not a perfumer, I imagine perhaps someone who works in a chemists shop that would sell this sort of thing? Any ideas? Thanks

That's not my impression, but thanks for the idea, this seems to be a really strange use of the term, I think Margaret is right that the client is the problem!
Carlos Ordaz Jul 22, 2009:
Karen, would it be implying to consult a given company as is "empresa perfumera"
Karen Marston (asker) Jul 22, 2009:
Again, apologies, I should have worded my comments differently and just posted a clarification with my question. Am I forgiven?
Patricia Wild Jul 22, 2009:
I completely agree with Margaret and Jaime. I just don't think we should waste our time (as she says) on bad manners.
Karen Marston (asker) Jul 22, 2009:
I am sorry if I have upset anyone, that is the problem with the written word, there is no tone of voice. I certainly did not mean to be critical and of course I am grateful for ideas, It was just that the reason that I posted the question was that I knew that 'perfumer' didn't fit and was wondering if anyone knew of another meaning for the term in their experience, so was surprised that this was suggested so wrote the note to clarify this. Please all accept my apologies! No offence intended!

Your comments, Karen! Karen, I'm quite amazed at your comments. You asked for ideas and we've tried to give you some. I don't think your in a position to criticize anyone if they give a quick answer. Often quick answers are correct. I'd also say that we've all read your explanation, which we normally tend to do before answering a question. Who knows? Perhaps your client is the one who's made the mistake here, for I can't see what a "Perfumera" has to do with nappies. Regardless, I'd be grateful for any answers offered, right or wrong, for they indicate efforts made by others to help you out.
Jaime Castro Jul 22, 2009:
Think that if 24 persons understood about the same, there should be a reason.
Karen Marston (asker) Jul 22, 2009:
Sorry, I thought I gave enough context in my initial question, I just don't want people to waste their time suggesting something that I discounted in my question
Jaime Castro Jul 22, 2009:
You clearly stated: perhaps someone who works in a chemists shop.
We are giving you IDEAS. If you have more information or context, then give it away.
Karen Marston (asker) Jul 22, 2009:
I feel that most of the answers have not read my explanation of the text that I am translating! Perfume is not even among the products sold by the company and what is being discussed is cosmetics, skincare products, haircare products and nappies. Before I got to the nappies section I thought that 'cosmetics expert' might work and 'beauty consultant' is a similar idea that would work for the other products but not nappies. Also there are men's skin and hair products discussed so 'beauty' is probably not the best term. Can people understand why the obvious answer really doesn't work? If it did I would not be asking! I think that maybe people need to read the question properly instead of trying to get their answer in as quick as possible! Thanks

I'd go with the obvious.

agree Richard McDorman : I would too. In this case, the obvious answer is the correct one. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perfumer

Perfume Shop Assistant/Perfume Seller

In September 2003, Sara joined The Perfume Shop as a Sales Assistant and worked in one of our top London stores. Sara was promoted to Senior Sales Assistant in July 2006. Sara had been carrying out her role as Senior Sales Assistant for over a year when she decided that she wanted a new challenge ‘behind the scenes’. At the time The perfume Shop was recruiting for a Buyers Assistant and Sara applied.
