No context, but this is often used to refer to the exaggerated architecture of recent years, e.g. the Burg in Dubai. Any ideas on what the equivalent would be in English?

An alternative David's phrasing is fine, though you also see "The architecture of spectacle" to denote this phenomenon, which is closer to the Sp phrasing in this instance, as here:

agree Jim Tucker (X) : yes. "Exaggerated" in the sense that the construction distracts attention away from the function of the building itself. This is particularly problematic in the case of a museum (or at least some people think so).
