A hanging ceiling is one suspended by wire from the floor above and to be found particularly in earthquake-proof buildings - a previous office of mine had one. A false ceiling is merely one not attached directly to the floor above - or at least with a space between the ceiling and the floor above. Former high-ceilinged rooms can have a false ceiling put in to improve heating.
If the "cenafa" is plain, then it is a coving.
