I believe this is a designation for an administrative post in Denmark but have not been able to find the correct translation into English. Could it, perhaps, be 'clerk of the court' or is there a better translation?

In the good old days governing bodies were "tings" (like "folketinget"), and there was a person appointed to write down everything that happened or was said. This is different from a public registrar, and had nothing to do with recording or registering "deeds", in the sense of property documents.
