neutral  casper (X): AFAIK 'medial' in medical English means 'toward/closer to the body’s midline'. I don't know it to be used in the sense of 'mid'. 'Medial' in German can mean 'mid', perhaps?

  -> TBH, based on the style I don't think that the author would care for subtle linguistic differences (I agree, of course, that there is a fair amount of interpretation involved from my side :-)
