: Ah yes, now putting it that way, that DOES make sense: braced TO rather than AT.

Standard practice is 3 joists per meter (been there, done that) - the bracing, usually in the middle, ensures that the distance remains the same all along the joist

: o/c = OVER centres, as Asker has said. But this seems to miss out the 'bracing' element.

Specifially, are we talking about bracing OF the joists (as F-X has suggested); or that it is the joists themselves that ARE the bracing? The EN is totally ambiguous on this point, so only the wider context MAY clarify this point...
