多謝 / 唔該
in cantonese there are 2 ways for saying thanks depending on the situations
多謝 - "do1 dze6" is for something someone has done for you that was not expectedly, like receiving a gift, or in more formal situation like receiving an award or after serving a customer in a store (ie: cashier). Literally: "many thanks"
唔該 - "m4 goi1" is for something someone has done for you in which you have asked for or expected, like asking someone to pass you the salt, to someone who has held the door for you, or to someone who helped you. Literally: "not necessary"
-pronunciations are in IPA SAMPA.
