This has been asked before - see http://www.proz.com/kudoz/swedish_to_english/construction_ci...
There is a good diagram which confirms this in the first reference and an illustration of one in the second.
"Plumb-bob" is better as a translation of "lod"

I have just received a message via Proz which details the problems you have with this answer. My search engine gives plenty of answers to "structure plumbline benchmarks". I regret I cannot help further, let's see how Ian Bradburn resolves this.

: The drawings show us what it is and then is a step forward but the answer given last time (benchmarks) has no references. I just don't see how it got accepted last time. Has anyone got a reference for this please?

The first reference is enough for me, but If you want more, I suggest you put 'stucture plumbline benchmarks 'in your search engine. Do let us know what you find.

: I'm going to have to disagree here Michael, as 'benchmark' does not fit with the definition of 'lodddubb' that I have found in Swedish (at https://batman.vv.se/batInfo/handbok31/15Stod.htm, among others). See my reference!

Deane my reading of definition is 'to check if deformations have occurred' and the meagre diagram appears to show two benchmarks vertically disposed to check wiith a plumb-line.

Plumb-bob
But they are not for fishing from the bridge of course but for getting vertical guide lines from which to work.

: This is close but not correct as defined in my reference.

Some kind of pin, dowel, or similar
This is a set of pins placed in the construction to facilitate determining it is vertical. I'd say these are used with a plumb bob as they are groved in the end for guiding the plump wire. But frustratingly, I haven't been able to 'pin' down a satisfactory term in Eng!
Here is a reference to the Swe definition, which also shows clearly what your 'thingymagig' is, what it does, and how it is used in a bridge construction --https://batman.vv.se/batInfo/handbok31/15Stod.htm.
And I suppose you've found these pictures at http://www.glh.se/groups.aspx?arID=4&gID=191 or http://www.haucon.se/index.php/armeringsdetaljer/skyddsknopp... and at http://www.haucon.se/index.php/armeringsdetaljer/skyddsknopp...
As to benchmark, this reference http://www.d2b-bygg.se/proinfo/dubbar.pdf, that clearly identifies 'brodubb' as related to establishing the benchmark (fixpunkt).
Hope this helps, if you're still on this!

Discussion
I did the search as you suggested and the result was
Aucun résultat trouvé pour "structure plumbline benchmarks"
Of course, if I take out the "" and search for the three words separately, I get loads of hits.
But this is partly my objection to the entry that got into the glossary. It was unsupported and these types of hits with three words in any order are also more problematic
I'm not saying your wrong but I'm still unable to turn up a single page that shows the picture found by our Swedish colleagues on several sites and the word 'benchmark' in the caption.
You also refer to your first reference when talking with Deanne but I just get a page not found message when I click on it
All this leaves me 'in the dark'
