刚才问了一英国同事，据说这个是比vice president 低一级别的职位，类似于助理的那种。不过中文似乎还没有对应的翻译，如果可以的话，先用着助理吧。

assistant与associate肯定不同，英国人也说这个是比vice president 低一级别的职位，类似于但不同于助理（VP职位上第二顺位决定人）。可这个职位，中文目前还没有对应的说法，能想到的就只有助理适合一点。

協理副總裁
這個職位比 ASSISStant vp高半格﹐都是助理副總裁﹐如果兩者同時出現﹐想個辦法區別開就行了。這種職位的譯文無法統一。一個很小的單位﹐內部各個科的職位命名方式都不一樣。
我的一個客戶要求我們這樣區分﹕ASSOCIATEvice president 為協理副總裁。也見過襄理的﹐都是港臺來的。

: "協理", "副總裁" are all terms used in the business world, not suitable for academic settings. "助理副校长" is more appropriate as "associate vice president" is one level lower than "vice president". Also, I lived in Champaign, where UIUC is located.
