En français, on ne peut pas toujours suivre le modèle anglais en ce qui à trait à la construction d'une phrase. Parfoit, c'est plus long en français...c'est le cas ici si l'on veut avoir une phrase correct et non un angliscisme.

In all events, it wouldn't be 'foncé'/'clair'; the implication is that as it flashes, instead of turning on and off instantly, it gradually dims or gets brighter; the abruptness of the transition is softened.
