Every week, the machine shafts shall be rotated by hand for a few revolutions and recorded on appropriate forms so that the rust-proofing oil is uniformly distributed over all surfaces. Never keep the shaft in the same position.
Small machines and circuits shall be filled with protective oil or filled and drained every 3 months, turning the shaft by hand, during filling. This procedure is recommended, if allowed by the ///shaft seal leakages.///
All the parts of the machinery filled with protective oil shall be checked every month to ascertain the level of the oil and to drain off any water which may be present in the oil.
Store inside warehouse or under shelter where easily accessible.
Remove carbon ring shaft seals from steam turbines and replace with soft brained packing or wicking dipped in lube compatible preservative. Packing containing graphite shall not be used
