Meaningless fillers
Well, um, I kind of fell over and sort of landed badly on my ankle, which, er, was what, basically, caused my injury.
Fortunately, I am coming to an end of listing the fillers in common educated/uneducated speech; the above is hard to break up into two idioms so i give it in full. But, as can be seen, the main question centres around 'sort of/kind of' and 'basically' - oh, so common both!

Comment: "Thanks to MGPD for the translation and multiple suggestions. But the answer given by Eleni with two peer agreements is my choice. The note Eleni added at my request is very helpful. I need a good dictionary of idioms English-Greek and Greek to English. I have two but one is jargon of the Piatsa and the other - recently published - not really up to my expectations. Meanings of words, however, change so quickly. You can't freeze a spoken language. From one of such dictionaries I got the phrase παίχτηκε σκηνικό = έγινε φασαρία but clearly σκηνικό can now have a positive as well as a negative significance."
