snodo ?
Explanation:
The Eurodicautom translates "jar" (drilling) as "snodo".
In http://www.august.com/epicentre/local/drilling_jar.html
I found the following definition for "drilling jar": A tool used in the drillstring for imparting an upward or downward jar or jolt to the drillpipe should it get stuck in the hole while drilling or making a trip.
Did some advanced search with snodo and trivellazione/perforazione with no significant results. McGraw Hill is of no use. I am not an expert in this field, but I was curious.

Thanks again. I do have Eurodic here but for some reason I have problems with it, probably because I access it through a firewall. Sorry for all these oil questions, if it is any consolation I only have 100 left !!!
Regards,
Nick.
