DECOILED SHELL PLATES
Occasionally *** decoiled plate **** will be used without rolling the plate to the tank radius. This will generally be on 3/16" to 3/16" plate. These plates will have some residual curvature remaining after going through the coil and decoil processes. It is very critical that the residual curvature be in the same direction as the tank curvature. This should be discovered in the purchasing and fabrication stages so that the plates are shipped laying correctly for dressing with fit-up nuts on the ground without turning the plates over or checking them in the field. The prudent Construction Supervisor will make sure the shop / purchasing initiates procedures to assure this happens.
