English term
Saturday night special
English to Spanish
Other
"Three weeks after the special report on violence, an assassination attempt was made on President Reagan. The weapon - an ordinary "Saturday night special"- was a natural choice for a symbol to connect an unusually large number of stories on different aspects of the event."

A Saturday Night Special is a cheap hand gun (pistola / revolver).
There was an assassination attempt on Reagan with a Saturday Night Special gun. This is why it is used as a symbol by the graphic designer.
However, the term is also used to refer to a tv programme which has been put together in a hurry. The last three lines of your text suggest that the symbol of the Saturday Night Special gun also represents the linking of various stories as one might have in a Saturday Night Special programme.
See references for more details.
How you translate it will depend on whether you want to keep the play on words (which I don't think you can do without an extensive footnote!).
