English term

antibody screen

English to Russian Medical Medical: Health Care
I am just wondering if antibody screen is the same as blood-sensitization test? The synonym? Many thanks.

Prima facie, it may seem so. But antibody screening is a more general method than the blood-sensitization test.
Antibody screening is a standard group of routine blood tests used to detect immunoglobulin antibodies prior to transfusion or during pregnancy (on nearly all pregnant women). In this test, the laboratory is looking for a reaction by specific antibodies that might be present in the blood. If the antibody screen is negative then the woman is considered "unsensitized". If it is positive, the lab goes on to identify the exact antibody, and here new tests for blood sensitization for a SPECIFIC factor (for example, Rh) are carried out.

What about the translation, I would translate this expression as "скрининг антител"

скринниг на антитела, скриннинг антител, скриннинг-тест

I think Natlie is almost right. The only problem is that in some TRANSALTIONS (e.g., from RU into EN, or from GE into RU) I met a couple of times another treating of the term, for example:

...thus the new medicine represents an antibody screen which ensures your health and augments you safety...

So, please refer to the whole content in order to obtain the most appropriate usage of the term (recall that some leaflets of medicine contain very poor English:).

Among various meaning of the verb "screen", the Meriam Webster gives us:
screen vt (15c) .... b (1): to examine usu. methodically in order to make a
separation into different groups (2): to select or eliminate by a screening process.

Yours,
Tagir
