It depends, if it is talking LITERALLY about the physical support, then this could be one possible solution.
'support material' might work too, as long as there is no possible ambiguity with the notion of 'supporting material'!

: The medium is the stuff one applies to the support. It is a shame the Asker is reposting rather than simply adding info and context in the Discussion box.
