Why "minerai", I wonder? Ore is won from mines, which are similar to quarries, and "équarrir" means to butcher (cut up) dead animals ... More prosaically, though, I suppose, ore is to metal what this raw (in more ways than one) material, manufacturing meat, is to sausages and mince meat ...

agree  Debbie Tacium Ladry: maybe "beef trimmings"? If this is the case, it seems to me to be the most logical answer (I don't understand why minerais is used - surely there's a better term in French, e.g. parures...)
