Does anyone know if there is a specific word for shop window shutters one had in the Medieval ages and maybe later, which didn't open sideways but downwards (I think), forming a kind of counter (if I understand correctly)?
An diesem Haus sind noch die alten Schubläden erhalten, die tagsüber die kleinen Schaufenster freigaben und nachts einfach hochgeschoben wurden.

roller shutter
This house still has the old roller shutters that roll down during daytime, displaying the shop window and just roll up during nighttime.

fold-up shutter
Maybe there's a more official term out there. I think what you're looking for doesn't roll, but is really a one-piece board that it just folded up at night, like a fold-up ironing board.

Really impossible to know without seeing a picture, though.

: these days they are drawn up with a strap (or electrically operated) but I've seen very old ones indeed that were pushed up with a special hook

Sorry: \'medieval\' .
I think they are unlikely to have had rolling slats in those days.

Response to asker\'s point: Maybe that\'s a good reason to be vague about specifying what type of mechanism or technique was used.

Your Hampshire webpage looks convincing.
Other possibilities: \'hinged shutter\', \'drop-down shutter\'

Discussion
Es sind feste Holztafeln, die in Schienen (wie bei unseren modernen Rollden) nach oben geschoben werden.
I have thus decided to use "sliding shutters". "Rollden" was, in essence, the best translation (though it was my fault that people were looking for words for folding shutters since I had understood them to function in this way). Nonetheless, I can't use Roller shutters, because the shutters don't roll, but remain panel-shaped.
Thanks to everyone for their help!
