German term

Anerkennungsstelle

German to English Tech/Engineering IT (Information Technology)
This term refers to the office responsible for approving suppliers of certification services (i.e. for electronic signature purposes). Does anyone know what term is used in English? Please specify if UK or US term as they could vary.

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Dec 15, 2004:
Thanks to everyone who helped with this - there doesn't really seem to be a single universal term so I ended up with quite a few to choose from. In the end I went for "registration authority" as this seemed most appropriate in the context. Furthermore, supplier of certification services is probably better rendered as "certification authority".

licensing centre/office

or maybe 'registration centre/office' depending on what is actually involved

agree Ken Cox : ...licensing authority, licensing body -- I doubt there's any single standard term, and the name of the body that does the licensing can vary greatly (as can be seen from a bit of googling).

authentication centre

or: approval centre (both UK)
As these offices are there to authenticate and approve the certifiers' identity and competence (as I understand it from the context).
