Fangräume

German to English Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering Scissors
""Produkteigenschaften: • neue ABC-Struktur-Schneide für besonders weichen Schnitt durch
• große Fangräume
• stützenden Führungszahn
• 15 Zähne in Blockzahnung mit griffiger Mikrofeinverzahnung"

From a text about scissors. I haven't got the faintest idea what "Fangräume" are in relation to scissors and cannot find an adequate translation anywhere. TIA for your assistance.

swathe/area of cut / of cutting action

I think 'Fangraum' is being used here to describe the 'capture area', 'swathe' or 'range'of the blades in one movement
Example sentence:

1849 THOREAU Week Concord Riv. Sat. 41 The great mower Time, who cuts so broad a swathe. (from the OED definition of 'swathe'

3 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I wasn't entirely convinced by either answer, but went with "area of cut" in the end, which seemed at least somewhat likely. Thanks to all and Happy Christmas."

biting/meshing area

For example, those designed to remove bone are generally quite strong and deliberately designed so that the biting area times the force generated by that biting is considerably less than the supporting area and the ability of the supporting structures to withstand such forces without damage.

It should be understood that the method and apparatus contemplated by the present invention are adapted for comminuting a wide spectrum of materials. In FIG. 8, for example, kernels of corn 20A are directed to the bite or meshing area of the above-mentioned herringbone-shaped teeth so as to cause said kernels to be broken up into relatively small particles.
