Oooops... wrong key again ;-)
Robyna, I did not at all want to criticise your choice, but working in the field of knee surgery and being very familar with these procedures, I would have used the other term. But this is only my personal opinion ;-)
Robyna (asker) Aug 28, 2007:
THANKS FOR YOUR PATIENCE!
Robyna (asker) Aug 28, 2007:
Petra, yes, that's what I wrote in the comment to your answer that reconstruction is the general trerm for both methods. But I need a term for the artificial ligament. It's really tricky to trust google. As I wrote above i trusted the matches as they were from American and Australian medical journals, but it seems you can't rely on that.
Robyna (asker) Aug 28, 2007:
Edith, I think you are right. I went through the articles of the medical journals where google gave me a match for replacement plasty. The articles do appear in American and Australian journals but this term appears when the article is translated from a German source. You are totally right, I was much too hasty, but what does this mean? Is this term maybe acceptable in medical reports or not?
PPaulus Aug 28, 2007:
@Edith: I totally agree with you. Replacement plasty doesn't seem the right answer to me, neither. And I'm sure others would have agreed with us.
@Robyna: "Reconstruction" is used for both artificial and autologous ligaments.
Edith Kelly Aug 28, 2007:
Robyna, you should ideally wait for 24 hrs (also recommended by KudoZ) before grading as you might get better answers or peer suggestions. I personally cannot agree with the answer you have chosen, if at all, replacement with the plasty bit.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Vielen Dank!

Note from asker:
Was man beim Übersetzen nicht so alles lernt ...

agree Dr Sue Levy (X) : yes, and might have to slip the word "synthetic" (augmentation) in somewhere http://www.coringroup.co.uk/p_productsligaments.html#Ant and...
