"A bíró (vagy bírák) mellett foglal helyet a jegyzőkönyvvezető, akinek nagyon fontos feladata van a tárgyaláson. Ő az a személy, aki rögzíti mindannak a lényegét, ami elhangzik a per során. Ez történhet úgy, hogy a jegyzőkönyvvezető ott helyben írja a jegyzőkönyvet. A tárgyaláson elhangzottakat hangfelvétel is rögzítheti, s a jegyzőkönyvvezető a tárgyalást követően a hanganyagot foglalja írásba. A polgári perekben nem feltétlenül szükséges, hogy a jegyzőkönyvvezető jelen legyen a tárgyalóteremben. Ilyenkor a bíró maga diktálja magnóra, hogy mi történik a tárgyaláson, majd utólag hangfelvétel alapján készül el a jegyzőkönyv."
