Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): ErichEko ⟹⭐

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

The Regional Government of Special Capital Distict of Jakarta

Pemerintah Daerah Khusus Ibukota Jakarta = The Regional Government of Special Capital District of Jakarta.

I noticed in all your questions, the word 'jakarta' was incorrectly spelled. It should be 'jakarta' not 'jarkarta'.

If I am not mistaken, in 1999, the Government changed the name from \'Pemerintah Daerah Khusus Ibukota Jakarta\' to \'Pemerintah Provinsi Daerah Khusus Ibukota Jakarta\', which is translated as \'Provincial Government of Special Capital District (or Region) of Jakarta.\'

here\'s what I found on the internet.

from http://www.dki.go.id/jktdulu.htm :

Tahun1999, melalaui uu no 34 tahun 1999 tentang pemerintah provinsi daerah khusus ibukota negara republik Indonesia Jakarta, sebutan pemerintah daerah berubah menjadi pemerintah provinsi dki Jakarta, dengan otoniminya tetap berada ditingkat provinsi dan bukan pada wilyah kota, selain itu wiolyah dki Jakarta dibagi menjadi 6 ( 5 wilayah kotamdaya dan satu kabupaten administrative kepulauan seribu )

for the translation, of course you have to keep the term \'regional government\' (pemerintah daerah). my added note was intended only as extra information just to keep you up-to-date.

Actually, the term \'special capital district\' is used by the US - ASEAN Business Council. \'Region\' is used to mean \'daerah istimewa\' not \'daerah khusus ibukota\'

from http://www.us-asean.org/Indonesia/business_guide/

Indonesia’s form of government is a republic. The Executive Branch includes a Vice-President and 26 cabinet ministers. The Legislative Branch, known as the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), is a multi-party body that approves legislation and elects the President and Vice President every five years. The President appoints judges for the Supreme Court (Mahkamah Agung). Local government is separated into 32 provinces, two special regions, and a special capital district.

Peer comment(s):

disagree Joel Levine : It doesn't have the word "khusus" in the Indonesian, so it should be translated as the Regional Government of the Capital, Jakarta.

then I wonder what DKI stands for?!! DKI = Daerah KHUSUS Ibukota. In fact, anindito's disagree proved that it DOES have the word 'khusus' in the official name.
disagree anindito : the official name is Daerah Khusus Ibukota Jakarta

it seems that you didn't read my added note carefully. what I meant by the official name is the official name of the government, not the region.

Special Capital Region of Jakarta

there's no need for "District".

for the official translations of:
- province names
- cabinet
- indonesian addresses
you can always refer to the URLs below.

as for Pemerintah Daerah you can use Regional Government so
the long version would be :
the Regional Government of the Special Capital Region of Jakarta.

well it\'s not that K\'s translation is wrong or anything, but in the case of translating government names, an official translation always exists. and my answer happens to be the official one.

neutral Kardi Kho : I don't see any difference between my answer and yours. I DID give the word 'region' as the alternative to 'distict'. as a matter of fact, both terms are used.
