Spanish term

vegas forrajeras

Spanish to English Science Archaeology
Dear translators,

I am a little stuck with this term. The best I can think of is fertile plains with animal fodder which is just awful, I know.

This is the context:

fertile pastures/meadows/grasslands

maybe one of these?

or animal foraging lowlands

I think if there was no alfalfa or other fodder crops planted for the animals then just pasture lands/grasslands or meadows

or GRAZING meadows/grasslands though I think it's possibly a tautology.

One of Taña's references below has FODDER_PRODUCING MEADOWS which would work though I really don't thing "fodder" is necessary at all as that's what grasslands/pastures and meadows are for: animal foraging or fodder. Animals graze there so I really think that adding "fodder" to these words is unnecessary.

used, the fodder-producing meadows were of great importance. Up to one half of the land belonging to a village was used as inmark in the seventeenth century.

Thank you Gallagy. I am inclined to leave "fodder" (see 1st paragraph: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fodder)
