the translation of recubrimiento will depend on what it is actually covering. That's why context is so important. Covering is a very general term, used for both external and internal finishes. Cladding is a covering for external walls (it is usually functional, but can include decorative facade cladding). This may even be referring to stone facing, which is a thin veneer of stone used as external cladding to imitate stonework.
