According to the two Wikipedia articles, both plants grow in South America. Tecoma stans is a common plant here in Southern California, which we call 'yellow bells' or 'yellow trumpet flower'. I haven't heard of 'yellow trumpetbush'.

Comment: "You're probably right. What I ended up doing was to add a translator's note to the effect that both of these species are known as carboncillo in South America. Thanks for your help."

yellow trumpetbush
Vainillo
Nombre científico: Tecoma stans (L.) Juss. ex Kunth
Familia: BignoniaCeae
Otros nombres comunes: Candelillo, Carboncillo
The links shows that it is a shrub/tree, so probably on the right track. The wiki gives a reference for English names. Yellow trumpetbush, among others
