Spanish term

Mgtr

Spanish to English Other Education / Pedagogy University certificates
The phrase is "Mgtr (Name)"
DECANA DE LA FACULTAD

It appears at the bottom of a certificate listing a university student's courses and marks for the year. The university is in Peru.

Can anyone help with "Mgtr"?
Thanks in advance

Lydia De Jorge Jul 12, 2007:
Perhaps Manuel is right, but I guess we would need to see what it means in Peru. Magistrado is also a lawyer and a dean could very well be a lawyer.
Manuel Cedeño Berrueta Jul 12, 2007:
Lydia: In Spanish, university degrees are (Latin titles used in English & Spanish):
Licenciado (o equivalente) = ≥5-year Bachelor’s degree;
Magíster = 2-years Master’s degree
Doctor/PhD (Latín Philosophiae Doctor) = PhD (Doctor of Philosophy)
Saludos.
Lydia De Jorge Jul 11, 2007:
If the abbrev. is in spanish, I don't see how it could be "magister" or "Master"...

magister/master

I think it must be an abbreviation for "magister" Perhaps it indicates that the person whose name appears has a master's degree

Magister

but don't translate it as a title! Equivalent of Master's generally - in Peru I don't know.
