Spanish term

S/F

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general) Echocardiogram
I *think* this is what it says ... I'm trying to work from a very poor copy.

This is from an echocardiogram report for a patient admitted to the hospital for chest pain and diagnosed with acute coronary syndrome. The variables measured are VI, AI, Fey, RAo, and then we have what looks like *S/F: 14 mm*.

I don't find anything that applies in the tremedica glossary, and it doesn't appear in a search for previous KudoZ questions.

I know the other abbreviations ... what does S/F stand for (if this is correct) and how do we express it in English?

Thanks for your help as always.

Joseph Tein (asker) Mar 29, 2013:
My appreciation Thanks to everyone for your comments and contributions to this. I always appreciate these collegial discussions ... we all learn from them.
schevallier Mar 29, 2013:
septo posterior ok, it seems that "septo posterior" can be used to describe the posterior half of the inter-ventricular septum http://bvs.sld.cu/revistas/mie/vol4_4_05/mie10405.htm in that sense, "SP" could be understood as "Posterior Septum"... but why the slash in-between S and P...? beats me! Good luck ;-)
schevallier Mar 29, 2013:
@liz askew I'm not sure which paragraph you're referring to, but if it is your ref about "Miocardiopatia", it does say "engrosamiento del septo y pared posterior de ventrículo izquierdo" which are two different things.

I just consulted a friend who is an MD and she said it is possible!
liz askew Mar 29, 2013:
@schevallier
How do you explain the use of "septo posterior del ventrículo izquierdo" in paragraph 2 here:
schevallier Mar 29, 2013:
SEPTO POSTERIOR... SEPTUM POSTERIOR "septo posterior" refers to a vascular territory, and therefore is not a measurement in mm... as for "septum posterior", there simply is no such thing because a septum being a division between two cavities, the correct term for it is "posterior wall", this proposition having nothing to do with "S/P", it is thereby irrelevant, IMHO :-)
lorenab23 Mar 28, 2013:
Hi Joseph Did not mean to leave you high and dry :-( I was at a depo all day. I am glad Liz came to the rescue. Yes I believe it is septo posterior.
Saludos
Joseph Tein (asker) Mar 28, 2013:
SEPTO POSTERIOR In this 222-page document from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, there is a nice little glossary on page 9 (useful for mining some new acronyms for everyone's glossary) that shows SP = septo posterior. See: http://pendientedemigracion.ucm.es/BUCM/tesis/med/ucm-t26278...
liz askew Mar 28, 2013:
septum?
Ellen Kraus Mar 28, 2013:
what makes me sceptical is the fact that this gas usually appears as SF6 (6 being its. oxidation state). I suggest contacting the Client to get this clarified.
Ellen Kraus Mar 28, 2013:
@Joseph, could it be a contrast Agent and the 14 mm refer to the diametre ?
Joseph Tein (asker) Mar 28, 2013:
S/P then... what is it? Thank you Lorena ... and I'm still left with my question! Can't find S/P in tremedica or in any previous KudoZ question in the echocardiogram context (several other S/P questions do appear).

lorenab23 Mar 28, 2013:
Hi Joseph I believe is S/P please see here:
VI 50/32 mm
S/P 14 mm
Fey65%

Sigo investigando!

Saludos!
