Just curious, but in what kind of situation/context is this word used to address someone?

...it means "bandage".

I don't know if this is the meaning when its used the way you describe it, though.

It could be a nickname.

Hi Lori,

This is a complete guess but since "banda" is slang for "gang" (in Mexico, anyway) I thought I'd give it a shot.

Or did they mean "bandaje", which literally means "tire", in reference to someone's appearance perhaps.

Or "bandazo", which means "lurch, violent heave or roll to one side of a ship".
