could be.. but isn't that "cabrestante" - according to my Oxford. Are they the same thing? Perhaps "winch" would be bettter here then. Anyone?

Machine with a spinning vertical cylinder which is used, esp. on ships, for pulling heavy objects with a rope

A capstan is also a thin spinning cylinder in a tape recorder which pulls the tape through the machine when it is pushing against a rubber wheel.
