Hello everybody,
I have been sent two pdf files from a client ( one with the source language, and the other with the target ). The client said that I should proofread the target language file usind trados 2011, and send the file back as a pdf one. I've a good experience in translating files using Trados, but this is my first time to proofread a file using it. Hi Zahraa,
First of all, I should say I don't actually use Studio, so I'm no expert, but according to Tuomas Kostiainen, who certainly is, you can only convert PDF files when you import them into Studio 2011; you won't get a PDF at the end when you export the edited text, and what Studio offers you after conversion might be a mess of text and formatting tags.

What your customer ought to do in my opinion is extract the text from the target PDF for you, save it as a Word file and then send you that to work on (= import into Studio and edit there). You make the changes and then return the exported Word file to the customer, who can then check it (perhaps) and convert the final version into PDF format using MS Word or Adobe Acrobat, for example. (Other tools can do the job as well.) So in a nutshell, what your customer wants you to do is a tall order. If you agree to do all the conversions, then do make sure you get paid for the extra work.

Absolutely! Studio is not intended for proofreading PDFs. You should proofread the target PDF against the source PDF and make corrections or notes directly in the PDF.
In case the client wishes to have the same corrections in their TM, they should send you the translation in the format obtained from the translator (bilingual DOC(X), or TTX, or SDLXLIFF, or whatever they have).

Dear Natalie,
The translation was made by one of my friends ( the client doesn't know ), and she, my friend, told me that she has handed them the translation as pdf file only, so the client himself does not have any other options... what do you think I should do.

in this case your only option is proofreading the target PDF against the source PDF and making corrections or notes directly in the PDF.

OK, but your friend herself did not do the translation in PDF, did she? Her working file is either DOC(X), or TTX, or SDLXLIFF, or whatever she used. In this case I suggest asking your friend for her translation, proofread it and convert the final file into PDF format.

Use your friend's original file and then convert the (exported) translation to PDF (which you can do with MS Word 2010, for example).
